The Studio
A bespoke glass and brass studio born in the craft traditions of Singaraja, Bali. We make things that don't exist anywhere else — because that's precisely what our clients ask for.
Work With UsStaind Designs was born out of a simple frustration: the most interesting people we knew couldn't find the things they were imagining. Everything available was too safe, too generic, too easily replicated. So we built a studio in Singaraja — a city with a 700-year history of royal craft patronage — and started making things that didn't exist anywhere else.
We work in stained glass and brass because they share the same quality: they're alive. Glass fractures light in ways you can't predict. Brass develops a patina that's entirely its own. Every piece we make keeps changing long after it leaves the studio.
Where craft is still sacred
Singaraja is different from the rest of Bali. It was the Dutch colonial capital, a trading port where Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim and Chinese craft traditions all mixed. The result is a city where making things by hand still has weight — where a blacksmith or a weaver is considered a master, not a hobbyist.
That ethos is baked into how we work. Slowly. Precisely. With materials that deserve respect.
We don't make Balinese glass. We make glass that has been shaped, subconsciously, by years of being surrounded by sacred geometry, natural colour, and the understanding that a beautifully made object is never just an object.
Our lotus motifs, our instinct for layered symmetry, our colour palette that reaches for depth over brightness — these come from Bali. The brief always comes from you.
We have never turned down a commission because it was too unusual. Difficult, complex, technically challenging — yes. Too strange? Never. Strange is our sweet spot.
We iterate until you're genuinely electrified by the design — not just satisfied. If something isn't working, we rebuild it. The timeline bends. The quality doesn't.
Every piece is made by our small studio team in Singaraja. We don't outsource, we don't batch-produce. Every commission is the only commission that matters while we're making it.
