Your
Commission

Every Staind Designs piece starts with a conversation. There's no brief too strange, no idea too half-formed. Just tell us what you're imagining.

The Full Process

From First Message to Finished Piece

01

The First Conversation

You get in touch — by email, contact form, voice note, whatever works. Tell us what you're imagining, even if it's vague. We'll ask questions, probe the brief, and start understanding what kind of piece we're making together.

⟶ Within 48 hours of enquiry
02

Brief & Scope

We'll send you a written brief summary — what we understand the piece to be, the likely scale, materials and approach — along with a fee proposal. No surprises later. Everything is agreed before we begin designing.

⟶ 3–5 days after first call
03

Design Development

This is the heart of it. We produce detailed drawings, colour studies, and for glass commissions — physical sample panels in the proposed glass types. You review, give feedback, and we revise. We don't move to production until you're genuinely electrified by the design.

⟶ 2–4 weeks depending on complexity
04

Production

Once the design is signed off, we begin making. You'll receive progress photos at key stages — the cartoon (full-size drawing), the glass-cutting layout, the first leaded-up section, the completed piece before finishing. You're never in the dark.

⟶ 4–12 weeks depending on scale
05

Delivery & Installation

All pieces are professionally packed for international shipping. We work with specialist art shippers who handle customs, insurance and fragile freight. For clients in Bali, we offer full professional installation by our own team.

⟶ 7–21 days shipping depending on destination

Common Questions

Before You Get in Touch

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — we ship worldwide. We work with specialist art freight companies who handle customs documentation, insurance and fragile goods handling. We've shipped to the UK, US, Australia, Singapore and across Europe.

How much does a commission cost?

Every piece is different, so we don't publish a price list. A small decorative glass panel might start from £800. A full architectural window installation could run to several thousand. Brass hardware pricing varies by piece, quantity and complexity. We'll give you a detailed quote after the initial brief conversation — no obligation.

How long does a commission take from start to finish?

A simple brass hardware commission (e.g. a set of kitchen handles) typically takes 6–10 weeks. A medium glass panel, 8–14 weeks. A large architectural commission could be 4–6 months. We'll give you a realistic timeline upfront.

I don't have a fully formed idea — is that okay?

Completely. Some of our best work has come from the most vague initial briefs. A colour palette, a feeling, a reference to something completely unrelated — these are all valid starting points. We're experienced at drawing out what you actually want.

Can I visit the studio in Bali?

Yes — if you're in Bali, we'd love to have you visit. Singaraja is about 2 hours from Seminyak / Canggu and worth the trip. Get in touch and we'll arrange it.
